Appeals

Family Law Appeals | Minnesota Court of Appeals Attorney

As part of my practice, I handle appeals of district court decisions to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. My appellate work focuses on family law decisions. Appeals are not appropriate in every case, and determining whether an appeal makes sense requires careful analysis of both the record and the law.

Appellate Timing and Procedure

Appellate matters are procedurally demanding and time-sensitive. Anyone considering an appeal should consult with an attorney as early as possible to evaluate available options and understand how procedural requirements may affect the case.

District Court Review Before Appeal

In many cases, appellate review is preceded by additional proceedings in the district court, such as motions asking the court to clarify or amend its findings. How those steps are handled can significantly affect the scope and standard of review on appeal.

Review by the Court of Appeals

On appeal, the Minnesota Court of Appeals generally reviews both the district court’s factual findings and its application of the law, using standards that are specific to the issue raised. If you are considering an appeal and would like an independent legal assessment of your case, contact me at (952) 270-7700 to schedule an initial consultation.
